Finding balance between warmth and style
Winter fashion doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your unique style for practicality. The key is choosing fabrics, silhouettes, and layering techniques that keep you warm and align with your Kibbe type. Our favorite technique is 3-layer layering:
- Your base layer should include thin basics that will keep you warm without making you sweat.
- It is best to use a thick fleece or something that serves as insulation as a second layer.
- Finally, a winter coat or parka will work as a barrier against wind and rain in the outer layer.

Let’s now look at some examples for your Kibbe using the 3 layer technique.
Today we will explore options for the YIng Kibbe Body Types, that is, the softer on the scale, starting from Soft Classic to Romantic.
Soft Classic Kibbe
Base Layer
Choose soft, fitted and elegant basic pieces that maintain the delicate balance while keeping you warm. Some good examples are:
- A lightweight, fitted cashmere turtleneck in a soft neutral or pastel shade.
- A long-sleeved thermal or sweater in a silk or cotton blend. This is The Essential Cashmere Blend Top from LILYSILK in white.
- Some good bottom options are high-waisted wool trousers with a slim or straight leg. Or soft midi skirts in structured knit or thick fabric, paired with warm tights for extra comfort.
Second Layer
- A waist-length cardigan or tailored knit jacket in a soft, textured fabric like brushed wool or mohair.
- Another option is a lightweight, belted sweater in a muted color, such as rose beige, dove gray, or soft camel, to emphasize the Soft Classic’s balanced proportions.
Outer Layer
- For this layer, look for symmetrical coats that don’t look too heavy for your silhouette. I suggest something with a subtle emphasis on the waist, or something narrow, not too oversized or too over the top, and not too cropped. You can go for puffers, soft teddy coats, or a tailored wool coat with a subtle A-line silhouette, in a soft white, navy, or dusty mauve.
Flamboyant Gamine Kibbe
Base Layer
- A striped or color-blocked turtleneck or long-sleeve top in bold, high-contrast colors like black and white, red and navy, or mustard and teal.
- A fitted thermal shirt is also a good option.
- High-waisted skinny pants in textured fabrics like tweed, corduroy, or leather are ideal bottoms for you. If you wear a skirt, you can combine it with tights or leggings printed in bright or high-contrast colors.
Second Layer
- The second layer should be structured and cropped, with sharp lines and interesting details.
- For example a cardigan in a bold color. Or a boxy, waist-length sweater with graphic patterns or contrasting textures, such as cable knits or ribbing. The example below is from Tentree.
Outer Layer
- For the final layer, choose coats or jackets in a modern style, for example, a warm cropped or boxy leather jacket.
- If something cropped is not enough for the cold, choose something longer but keep it narrow and preferably in color blocks.
- Another good suggestion for you is narrow teddy coats.
Soft Gamine Kibbe
Base Layer
Soft Gamine’s layering starts with fitted, playful, and slightly feminine basics to reflect their compact yet delicate essence.
- The best option is a fitted knit top or thermal with small, delicate prints (like florals or polka dots) in warm or pastel tones.
- For bottoms you can wear high-waisted skirts (A-line or slightly flared) paired with warm tights in coordinating colors.
- Another comfortable garment is slim-fit trousers with a cropped or ankle-length cut in soft or textured fabrics like velvet or corduroy.
Second Layer
- For this layer, you can wear a cropped cardigan or sweater with embellishments like bows or buttons. Here is a beautiful option from Tentree.
- Another option is a waist-length knit jacket with rounded shoulders and a cinched waist, adding gentle curves to the silhouette.
Outer Layer
- Choose coats with a mix of structured tailoring and softness. Soft Gamines normally look great on cropped clothes and contrasting trims, but there are other good options.
- If you choose to wear a puffer, go for one that hits above your toes and is preferably somewhat narrow (and with emphasis on the waist).
- The fit in the shoulders, wrists, and waist of either jackets or coats is important to you because anything too oversized will look bulky on your silhouette.
Theatrical Romantic Kibbe
Base Layer
- A fitted turtleneck or a long-sleeve top in luxurious fabrics like silk, or fine-knit cashmere. Choose deep jewel tones (burgundy, plum, emerald) or soft, romantic neutrals (blush, ivory).
- Body-hugging camisole or lace-trimmed thermal for warmth and a touch of sensual detail. The Women’s Lace-Trimmed Long-Sleeved Vest in Silk and Wool from Cambridge Baby is a beautiful choice for your Kibbe.
Second Layer
- Cardigan or wrap sweater with elegant details like ruffles, lace trim, or small embellishments. Opt for soft textures like mohair or angora for added luxury.
- A fitted blazer or peplum jacket with sharp tailoring and feminine touches, such as velvet fabric, subtle sheen, or decorative buttons. Stick to waist-defining silhouettes.
Outer Layer
- Because of your delicate silhouette, narrow trim coats are best for you, while oversized and voluptuous will overwhelm your silhouette. So a good tip for finding a good piece is to ensure the shoulder has a good fit or preferably is sharp, and avoid drooping shoulders.
- Puffer jackets that can fit your silhouette and are not too big in size will look good on you. Emphasis on the waist is also super important for your Kibbe.
- Another option is a cinched-waist coat with dramatic details such as a fur (or faux fur) collar, ornate buttons, or a belted design.
Romantic Kibbe
Base Layer
- Fitted knit top or turtleneck in soft fabrics like cashmere or silk-blend knits. Choose warm, romantic tones like blush, cream, burgundy, or soft pink.
- Lace-trimmed camisole or thermal underlayer for added warmth, ensuring it feels delicate and pretty.
Second Layer
- A wrap sweater or cardigan with a softly draped or peplum design in materials like angora, mohair, or a soft knit with subtle shimmer.
- Another good idea is a waist-defining jacket with delicate details.
Outer Layer
- For your Kibbe, it’s best to keep the coat looking as delicate as possible (of course, considering the cold weather). One point that will work for you is always applying waist emphasis to highlight your silhouette. Coats with rounded or dropped shoulders work for you but try to avoid oversized garments.
- Try soft textures, something that doesn’t look very stif on you. Also, opt for light colors especially if your season isn’t dark or deep.
- A long, belted coat with a flared or A-line shape can emphasize your silhouette. Look for fabrics like wool or velvet with romantic details such as faux fur trim, delicate buttons, or soft draping.
Winter can bring challenges to maintaining your unique style, but with these custom layering tips and outfit ideas, you can embrace the season without losing your Kibbe style. Remember, to choose garments in colors that align with your seasonal color palette to enhance your look, adding harmony and vibrancy to your outfits.
