We’re getting closer again to that time of the year when we either look cute or like we’re drowning in pieces of clothing to keep ourselves warm. We get it, it’s autumn and you want to look your best. You want to wear accessories that complement your facial features and your personality and you’re done with looking like a mess every single winter. Thankfully, that will be over for you after this guide.
The essences… here we go again.
Essences are all about the way we effortlessly and naturally present to the world. They’re a part of who we are and recognizing which ones we own is one of the best ways to never dress the wrong way again.
On this guide you will find what winter accessories to wear if you have Dramatic, Gamine, Natural, Classic, Romantic, Ingenue or Angelic essence. So make sure to check out your 3 essences for more options. Let’s get started!
Winter accessories for the Dramatic essence
Dramatics need to focus on sharpness and extravagance. Bold colors, black & white, animal print, pointy or square shapes, and let’s not forget the word “editorial.” If it looks straight out of a magazine cover, it works.
Hats must be sleek or colorful. Harmonizing with the sharpness of their features.
Scarves must be giant, almost like wearing a blanket and if in bold colors, better.
Gloves must also be sleek, in materials like leather, ecoleather, or suede.
And for the shoes, nothing is better than boots. Combat boots if you have Gamine or Natural blend. Sharp long boots if you have a Romantic, or Classic blend.
Winter accessories for the Natural essence
Naturals are all about relaxed and oversized shapes. Materials that look heavy like wool or hemp are ideal. For colors you can stick to neutrals like beige, olive green, and browns. A key to knowing if something would work for the Natural essence is thinking about working in a barn. Would it go well with the aesthetic? If the answer if yes, you’re going the right way!
Hats should be discreet, not too loud in the head. Natural faces are already broad, so they need lighter knits. Chullo hats are a great option for them.
Scarves must be oversized. Plaid prints or handmade textures can elevate the look.
Gloves can also be broad and thick. Think of leather, or hand sewn wool gloves.
For the shoes, again, thick and broad shapes work great too. Think of the shoes you would wear to spend winter in the mountains. The more resistant they look, the better.
Winter accessories for the Gamine essence
Gamines look fantastic in short, but chunky items. These make them look playful and fun. So, everything colorful, childish but with an edge. Think of prints a 10 year old boy would wear and how winter clothes usually look on kids. Sometimes it feels a little big on them, but still looks good. That’s the case for the Gamines.
Almost every hat works. Honestly, no one looks better in hats than a Gamine. From baseball caps, to berets, to beanies, to bucket hats. They can wear them all. So, lucky! Just make sure it’s fun!
Scarves should be on the thinner side. While hats look great, scarves need to be smaller. Gamines tend to have small looking features, so wearing a huge scarf would overwhelm their balance.
Gloves should also be lightweight. Opposite to Naturals and Dramatics, Gamines look best in thinner gloves. Add color to your basic store gloves and that’s all you need!
When it comes to shoes, Gamines can rock any chunky sneaker or boot.
Winter accessories for the Classic essence
It’s not Classic if it doesn’t have balance, right? Besides the obvious “not too thick, but not too lightweight” we all know… Classics look best on elegant, high quality looking items. To never go wrong, a Classic must imagine they’re part of the royal family, so what should they wear?
For hats we can find the classic winter beanie. Also a nice beret. Just remember the hat must fit perfectly, because if it is too big or small, it will work against you.
Scarves can be as cozy as you want them, but they have to be plain or plaid. Unless your blend is something like Gamine or Angelic, it’s recommended to go for plain colors. Remember, with classic less is more.
For gloves, anything from leather to cashmere. Gloves must look like they were made just for you.
Finally, shoes. Yes, they also have to be balanced and elegant. A short heel, Chelsea boot is essential, but don’t forget the knee high or riding boot.
Winter accessories for the Romantic essence
Romantics can easily struggle in winter, especially when unaware of the essence. The Romantic essence is glamorous and luxurious. So, by instance everything from cashmere to fur will do justice to their whole look. Romantics can picture themselves as Hollywood stars from the 50’s to know which accessories work for them. Even in winter, you can still have that glam and it’s actually a great time to be extra about it.
Shearling hats (please don’t buy real fur, I’m begging), very feminine berets, or even silk scarfs in your head.
You won’t go wrong with silk and furry scarves.
Gloves can also have some fur on the wrists or even feathers. They can also be satinated and long. Remember, old Hollywood.
And for shoes, of course we’re keeping the glamour. High heel boots, or very delicate looking. Nothing too sharp or rough.
Winter accessories for the Ingenue essence
An Ingenue needs to focus on delicate and small items. Take the lightest pinks and blues from your color palette, choose tiny flower or heart prints. Buttons, hand knitted details, little pearls, and bows. All these elements work. You can think of someone who lives in a cottage in a cozy winter village where all they do is go out, drink hot chocolate and play in the snow like a kid. Whatever feels right for that environment, it is most likely Ingenue. The warmth of the Ingenue essence has to be reflected in their clothes. Cozy is key.
Bucket hats and ear warmers are key items. Think of fuzzy textures like teddy or faux fur.
For scarves, the coziest and softest, the better. Light colors, like cream, baby blue, baby pink or yellow, they all work.
Gloves should also have something cozy and feminine about them, so anything that feels hand knitted is perfect. Clothes must feel like a blanket, even in your hands.
Shoes must be like walking over clouds. So, Uggs or every shoe that feels fluffy and warm on the inside-out.
Winter accessories for the Angelic essence
The Ethereal essence, also known as Angelic needs elongated, soft lines. So, they have to look for flowing fabrics and materials, which can be difficult to achieve in the winter time. Someone with Ethereal essence has to think of themselves as someone who lives in a cozy cottage surrounded by snow, hiding from people. So, there are two options, anything that could belong to the grandma core if you have Ingenue, or Natural blend; or you can go for a witchy aesthetic if you have Dramatic or Gamine blend.
Less is more when it comes to hats for Angelics. But even if they can look like the cold wouldn’t hurt them, they still have to keep themselves warm. Shearling hats work great if you have Romantic or Classic blend, or Chullo faux fur hats if you have Natural or Gamine blend, just avoid prints on them.
Scarves must be lightweight looking, at least. So materials like shiffon, fibers like silk, they all work great. You can also go for thicker scarves in shiny materials.
Gloves are recommended to also be thin and delicate.
Finally, for shoes, an Angelic would look great on shiny, metallic shoes or keep them white. Boots or sneakers, as long as they are shining you’re good to go.
How do I make this work with my essence blend?
We always say the strongest the essence, the closer to the face. However, it all depends on your percentages, but for some people the accessories work best on their least stronger essence as it is the only way to incorporate it to their look.
If you’re dressing in your Kibbe ID lines and you’re including your main essence in your actual garments (bottoms, tops, coats and jackets), chances are you will be needing to include your complementary essences a bit more and this is a good way to do it. However, if you feel like you’re wearing a lot of your first complementary essence and you want to ground your outfit a bit more, you can wear accessories in your main essence.
If you are one of our clients and we have made a style guide for you, just follow the formulas and make sure to add the number of elements of each essence. Feel free to pick your accessories in any of your essences and it should be that easy!
