Following trends is not a sustainable action and we have been telling you to avoid them. Although they are still always there, it is hard to not fall into buying what you keep seeing everywhere. Fashion will always have seasonal clothing and with each season a new wave of trends comes to us.
You might be wondering. How do FASHION TRENDS start?
Fashion is fundamentally the most common means of expression: it refers to the ever-changing clothing worn by persons of cultural rank. When others imitate or replicate a particular clothing style, this becomes a fashion trend.
Nowadays, fashion trends start with designers. They create Spring/Autumn collections inspired by elements from the season, like popular culture, celebrities, music, art, nature, or politics.
Fashion designers display their creations at fashion shows, events, pop-ups, or through celebrities. Then, photographers, buyers, and reporters share the gathered information with the public in general. They receive it and adapt it to their needs and possibilities.
Small brands take advantage of this and adapt the trends from high couture fashion to their designs. Making trends more wearable and affordable on a daily basis. After that, trends grow by being worn on the streets, or by appearing on social media.
After being worn for a period of time, normally a season, it becomes obsolete. The public stops wearing it as often, it gradually disappears and then everyone forgets about it.
In conclusion, they start on the runways, followed by magazine and reporter’s exposition, it gains popularity on the streets and on social media, and at the end of the season, it finally turns obsolete.
Understanding how fashion trends work and where it comes from, helps us decipher which garments will stay with us for a longer time. In this upcoming season of Autumn/Winter 2022, there are lots of trendy garments that can easily be worn every year. Motorbike style is here in all its glory, Y2K movement has a big role but in a minimal approach, work chic style is strong, grunge details, and a bit of head-to-toe denim.
9 “Trendy” garments that you can continue to wear for years to come:
1. Leather Jacket
This one is a key garment for this season, but in my opinion, is a timeless piece.
In 1928, the leather jacket was first introduced as a fashionable garment by the designer, Irvin Schott. His design was inspired by the motorcycle leather jacket.
In this century, the leather jacket has become increasingly popular, and more celebrities have adapted it to their looks. It became more acceptable, and now it is seen as a softer, more casual, high-fashion clothing item.
2. blazer
If you like work attire, this is definitely a piece you should have in your wardrobe. There are millions of options for blazers, you can get one of your favorite colors or one with the fall color palette.
This season, leather blazers are a new proposal, so if you find one this might be the best time to wear them. My mom recently hand-me-down a leather blazer, she purchased it a few years ago and it is still a purchase she doesn’t regret.
3. tailored pants
This type of pants are a bit rare to find since they don’t make them truly tailored. Tailored means made to fit close to your body, if we take the word literally, it would mean pants made by a tailor to your exact measurements.
I also recommend you try to find these second-hand or borrow them from your mom or grandma’s closet. This type of tailored pants can be very flattering for you if you find them in the correct fabric. You can find which type of tailored pants fit you, based on your Kibbe Body Type lines. You can consult this here… “13 Kibbe Body Types And How To Style Them”
4. Straight-leg Pants
You can never go wrong with these ones. In fact, if you’re a fan of parisian or french fashion, this is already a staple in your wardrobe. Of course, there are different types of straight-leg pants. You can find a pair like the one shown in the picture, but there are less wide straight pants and those will always be on style.
These type of pants can be found in tailored styles, in jeans or in lighter weight fabrics. It really is up to you and your preferences, but it is a very versatille piece.
5. Chunky Boots
This type of boots became popular a couple of seasons ago and they are still being worn by everyone today. These are very comfortable and great for walking all day. It might feel like they are too heavy since the sole is very thick, but they are good for walking in the snow too.
You will find different thinkness in the sole, some boots will look moderate like the ones in the picture, and others will be a lot chunkier.
6. Plain White Tank Top
Plain, simple, and timeless. Not much I can say about this one but it has become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe since they can be very versatile and comfortable. There are many styles you can choose from, I like the ones that have a halter neck (which are currently, also trending right now).
7. Denim-Over-Denim
It could be a jacket over jeans, a shirt with jeans, or even a jumpsuit. The thing here is to keep it simple, but at the same time interesting. Use denim garments that have a different detail and it will upgrade the look. If not you can definitely use basic denim garments and pair them together to create this “trendy” look. In my experience, this is a look that comes and goes over the years, but I don’t think it will look outdated if you wear them after next season.
This style also comes from the Y2K movement.
8. Maxi Skirt or Dress
A maxi dress is a type of garment where you can skip the “rules” and use it for years and years as well. Just like maxi skirts, they used to be referred to as a hippie style but with the right fabric, you can make it feel like a neutral style, timeless, or even formal. This particular length is not flattering for everyone but if you have garments like these they will give your outfit a dramatic touch.
9. Maxi Camel Coat
This one is not a super trendy piece but since the maxi length is present in dresses and skirts, it is coherent that coats have the same length as well. A maxi coat will add drama to your outfit as well. The color Camel is always a good choice for the A/W season, but if you combine it with the maxi coat you have a trendy but timeless piece.
Which ones do you have already in your wardrobe?
Which ones are you planning to go and try to find in a thrift/second-hand shop?

Go ahead and buy the pieces you want after having this in mind.
As we always say, conscious choices are the path to having a sustainable wardrobe.
